‘Mischievous Kiss’ 2nd episode is still low at 3.7%
Lemme recap some of the comments in other blogs I surfed on why rating is important for the benefit of people like me who don't care about rating much when we choose which drama to watch:
Hyung is a tough guy, so I don't worry much about him. He'll bounce back, as usual. But it's his first effort as a lead actor and the low rating simply sucks. That said, I did wonder why he chose this role in the first place. He should choose a vigorous role that takes the viewers' mind away from comparing it to Boys Over Flowers.
Anyway, what's done is done. My loyalty is with hyung-kun, without a doubt. So there's no use worrying over things that may or may not happen. They're on to the races in the 2nd ep already? Does that mean they'll follow the pace of the anime? So hyung will be swinging a 5-ish year old girl hand-in-hand with Jung So Min by the end of the drama? (assuming MBC will let it continue to the end)
Another thing, please stop saying that once Baker King is over, the drama will pick up better rating. There'll be a drama with Rain next. Rain.. as in the international megastar Rain, ok. How is hyung gonna beat that one?? kim hyun joong vs lee seung gi vs rain. I'm in despair.
...and there's the strike issue as well. Hmm, life is difficult.
If the drama content continues at this slowass pace (as so many people kept harping on in blog comments), it will have this suckily low rating forever. Mischievous Kiss no minna-san.. please work harder!
- Hyung (KHJ) may well face a hard time ahead as an actor to get lead roles.. which is bad news for him as he is in Keyeast more to be an actor than a singer. Even in SS501, he has never been the strongest singer.. that would be Young Saeng, of course
- Advertisements will be affected, which means the production quality will be affected too (no money, no frills)
- CF opportunities for cast members will suffer
- MBC likes to cancel shows prematurely if it’s not performing well (e.g. Strike Love and Tamra)

‘Mischievous Kiss’ 1st episode received a very low 3.5% rating
I'm probably facing a major failure in my study for the first time and it feels surreal. But at least I'm a nobody and my failure, however major it is to me and mine, is not the subject of a worldwide broadcast. Villagewide, maybe.. if my relatives have their way.
Reading about such a low rating for the 1st ep of Mischievous Kiss and the harsh comments on hyung's acting made me sad. But you know, as Shah Rukh always likes to quip.. failure is never fatal. Hard work may not ensure success, but it's the only way you can live with yourself after everything is said and done.. so keep fighting, Hyun Joong-hyung! Most of the time, I think his fame is a double-edged sword: when they like him, he's Mr. Perfection himself.. but when they hate him, the heat he receives is just irrational.
I wish I could say.. it's just the 1st ep, it's gonna get much better later on!.. but after I've finished watching the anime and am now watching They Kiss Again, I have to honestly say that I hate Irie Naoki's type. (in the anime) How can he let his heavily pregnant wife go home by herself because he's busy finishing his dissertation?? I wanted to kill him after that ep. Even after he becomes a cute dad, I still can't forgive that image of him as a mean, tsumetai otoko.
Christine is right, Kotoko/Xianqing does have a bad taste in men. I'm now actually worried that if hyung plays this role very well, I'm gonna end up disliking him quite a bit by the end of the drama. But if he doesn't play his role very well, I'll end up disliking him too. Is that like.. a stupid dilema? I think so too. Doushiyo?!?!? ..what a conundrum.

Unfeeling robot! *whack whack* ..and I ended up liking Jin and Qitai. Am I the only one who thinks Qitai looks like a cuter and younger version of Kimura Takuya?? Who is this guy? I have to surf the net a bit and find out.

- Naoki Irie/Jiang Zhishu doesn't talk much at any point of the story until the end, kay. So please brace yourself for the disappointment of not having Kim Hyun Joong speak many lines as Baek Seung Jo.
- Kotoko/Oh Hani IS the main character of the story, so having her carry the whole drama until the end is a natural course for the director to take, isn't it?
- Mischievous Kiss is NOT the 'Boys Over Flowers the Second' just coz it starts off in a high school setting. After the 6th ep, the kids will be graduating and going to college. By the end of ISWAK, they're getting married. By the end of Itazura na Kiss anime, they have a cute 5-ish year old child. This is not a spoiler if you bother to check out the original manga, anime, and the previous drama versions. So please modify your expectations to better suit the actual setting.
- Please don't compare the rating of a nearly ending drama (Baker King) to Mischievous Kiss. It smacks of pettiness. However, I do think it should have done better. At least a 7%-ish? Anyway...
- Don't be disappointed with the contrast between the great hype and the miserably low rating. Hyping a movie/drama is a marketing effort. The audience, and not the hype, will decide its true worth.

Today! Today! It's today!
Of course it's about Mischievous Kiss being aired, why else would I go ballistic on a Wednesday? :P
MITAI NAAAAAAA!!!!!!
I've started watching They Kiss Again (the Taiwanese drama, sequel to It Started with a Kiss). All because of this youtube clip:
...in fact, there's so much snogging in this drama the uploader had to split it into 3 files. Whaaa..? The honeymoon scene almost looks like soft porn. Or foreplay for hardcore action. Not that I know anything about hardcore porn action or anything.. *cough*
But it made me revise my initial impression of Joe Cheng from the 1st ep of ISWAK. The guy was seriously cute in short hair. And the expressions were spot on. Never thought I'd say this (was determined not to like Joe Cheng in ISWAK before I stumbled on TKA), but hyung is gonna face a serious competition with every fan of the series comparing between the two male leads. In some scenes, I even felt my loyalty slipping a few notches.. gomen nasai, hyung-kun!
And yes, male lead.. ok. I got confused when people questioned me on that. Or that he's the hero of the story. Why question it? Irie Naoki is the hero of Itazura na Kiss. Therefore, Kim Hyun Joong plays the hero of the korean drama adaptation, Baek Seung Jo. Simple equation, right? Meh.
Anyway, I find myself superimposing hyung's face on Joe Cheng's automatically in some scenes.. errrmmmm, mostly the kissing ones. Gyabo. Will Jung So Min get a lot of antis after this drama? Fellow fans, please don't go overboard with your adulation of Kim Hyun Joong. It's just acting, kay? If you can't stand them kissing, go superimpose your own face on Jung So Min/Oh Hani's in your head.. you'll feel much better~
I wonder if the scriptwriters are gonna include their married life in the korean adaptation. Seeing BOF turning a whole season of the lost-memory episodes in the Taiwanese drama into a coupla intense episodes that didn't even allow me to blink for fear of missing Yoon Ji Hoo's (cute) frustrated expressions.. I wonder how many episodes do they need to solve the married couple's life problems. I wonder which profession they'll give to Oh Hani.. teacher or nurse. I hope she gets to be a nurse. That's more exciting coz we'll get to see the couple together a lot more than if she's a teacher. Of course the fangirl in me just wants to see hyung in a white doctor coat hogging the screen time.. LOL.
Most of all, I wonder if hyung's gonna be doing a lotta snogging.. gyabo. Can't wait to watch it!!

Itazura na Kiss manga summary
I found this site.. wow.. the manga is so different from the anime. I wonder how different is the anime from the japanese drama and the japanese drama from the taiwanese drama... and the taiwanese drama from the korean drama.
With each adaptation, the story evolves. I think people just love to know/create more and more stories.. that's why they keep changing the plot.

Mischievous Kiss (a.k.a. Playful Kiss) 3rd long preview
...waaa, so many expressions I have never seen from hyung-chan before. So glad he decided to become an actor. As a singer, us fans will never be able to share the many faces he can make.
I know many people think he's not good at acting in BOF and that he'll butcher Naoki-sama's image. But really, good acting is a matter of personal opinion, isn't it? I think hyung played Rui to perfection and Oguri Shun gave the worst Rui performance ever, but that runs contrary to many of Hanadan's fans. So let us be happy in our differences and stop bickering about it, okay?~
However, no matter what little skill in acting, and I can't be the judge of that coz I know nothing about acting...having never done any professional acting before, hyung always manages to convey the feelings of his characters through his eyes and expressions. Rui can be the quietest guy in F4, but we can always guess what he's thinking. When I watched the scene as Seung Jo looked at first Hani, then at the flasher.. I felt as if I could hear clearly what Naoki-sama/Seung Jo is thinking.
Maybe it's because hyung is such a straightforward guy, whenever he plays a character.. he can put across the emotions as clear as a bell to the audience. I think one day he should play a deceitful guy.. the kind where you think is good in the beginning but in the end is the mastermind of all the bad things happening in the movie/drama. That'll be cool. Good exercise in pretension.
I look forward to many many more movies and dramas from Hyun Joong-hyung. Work hard, stay healthy and keep fighting!! <3

Just two of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, I remember some scenes of this movie very vividly even after many many years. Even equate the way I met hubby with the 'spell' Sally made when she was a kid. Coz I sorta made the same spell when I was in high school. Well, more like praying very very hard.. and I got him too.. :P
I've always wondered how can I watch this movie again. It's not one of those blockbuster movies you'll still find gracing the shelf of a CD store 20 years after its release. The story itself is non-consequential.. no 'saving the earth from aliens' moment or some tragic love story like the Titanic. But it got under my skin and I've always wanted to watch it again.
And here it is! ..in 9 parts. Happy watching~

The "Boys Over Flowers Reunion" official photos are out!
Wow.. the japanese site is doing such a good job! They're so fast with updates and goodies~
So many of hyung's official products are released right after he entered Keyeast... ne? It's like salivating over GACKT's official products all over again and the feeling of frustration at my small budget... sono kanji.. haha. I'm so happy. The more products the company gives out, the more options I have on which one to buy.
Right now the one I can probably afford is the calendar & making DVD.Shall I buy that then? Aaaaaa... really want to buy a SS501 CD but now that they're scattered to the Four Winds, I dunno whether buying the CD will contribute to their commission anymore or not. I have an aversion of making some rich corporate types richer when I have so little budget to afford these things.
I wonder if hyung-kun will come out with a solo album at Keyeast one day. It's possible, right? Being a leader of SS501 doesn't mean he can't make his own music. I wish he'd return to his rocker root. I'm definitely looking forward to a rock album from him. Zettai happy ni naru kara ne!

I just went on Google grumbling about how I've never found any good download site from that search engine whenever I type "manga download" but this time I struck GOLD~
Not manga.. but the anime! I think the Playful Kiss staff referred to this version more than the anime when they created the scenes because the looks and styles of hyung and his co-stars were compared to the anime characters in that youtube clip.. instead of the manga sketch.
Tanoshikatta~~ ..ep 1 is downloading merrily into my HD. Seeing how fast the MGIG team is downloading and subbing the ep.. I have high hopes that the PK team will be as fast, if not faster..woohoo! Go team PK!! (don't like this M-kissers abbv., hen na no)

I wish the Mischievous Kiss shooting happened on my doorstep too!!
I like this fanboy's account of meeting hyung.. haha. Esp. the part where he wrote that hyung seems to have a halo or light beaming from behind him.
If a guy could experience that fast beating of the heart when meeting him, what about the rest of us fangirls? I think I will faint dead-away. Hmm, I doubt I'd unhesitatingly approach him anywhere like a lot of the fans do. If it were me, maybe I'll just watch from a distance *ish a cowardly stalker* :P
He is going for that BOF reunion thing in Japan... in his Naoki-sama's image!!! *faints from imagination overload* Aaaaaaaa.. want to go too!! Somebody wealthy, please sponsor me~

Stumbled onto them by accident. So hilarious.. I like the ones about suicidal friend, ad fail, interview gone wrong.. ok, that's like all the ones I've watched. My net is being a slowass.. as usual.
The Dissection of Yoon Ji Hoo
...according to me.
Hyung loves to read manga, and I have the impression that he likes translated manga more than mahnwa, altho they're mostly shounen ones.. Naruto, One Piece.. mmm, why is Bleach not in his list? It's a good manga, hyung! Go read it!! But I digressed. Being a manga fanatic, I wholly approve of this. Mahnwa graphics are beautiful, but most of the plots are really meh. The only mahnwa I've liked so far is "Daddy Long Legs"...and even then, I hate the way it ends. Arrgh. I usually avoid mahnwa no matter how beautiful the cover is. Waste of my money... sorry mahnwa artists ^^;;
Anyway, so when hyung said he read Boys Over Flowers comic twice, I assumed he read the translated manga one.. not the mahnwa, was I wrong? Is there even a difference in the story plot or characterization between the manga and mahnwa versions? Since I've only read the manga version, the way he played Ji Hoo fit my assumption though.. read this description:
Poor Goo Jun Pyo.. he never had a chance. The drama was Yoon Ji Hoo's from the word GO. Of course everyone has her/his own F4 favourite, but as a whole.. it was hyung who shines the most. Those who dislike hyung or Yoon Ji Hoo will not have a good memory of watching BOF coz he's in every plot-defining frame. I even thought the director and scriptwriters had a soft spot for him that they gave him all these cute scenes and dialogues to melt girls/women's (and men's too?) hearts. Even hyung said it (as frank as ever) in that New Caledonia interview. It's a good thing that Lee Min Ho is such a good actor, but the Best Actor in the Seoul International Drama Awards 2009 still went to hyung. Well, some of you can protest till the cows come home.. but he got it. I can't believe he won 1st place competing against my lovely Jun Ki. Hmm, maybe I have a talent for liking only the best? Hyung also got 1st place in this Korea Drama Festival 2009 poll. That's good. He loves awards.. :P

- Rui Hanazawa (花沢 類 Hanazawa Rui?) is Tsukasa's best friend who becomes Tsukushi's first serious romantic interest. He is generally quiet, but has a soft spot for his close friend and Tsukushi's idol, the model Shizuka Todo, whom he has harbored feelings for since childhood. His character is a bit complex, and his feelings for Tsukushi are in a nearly constant state of flux (varying from annoyance to love), but above all cares about her a lot. In season two of Hana Yori Dango, he grows closer with Makino, but he also claimed that he loved her and that he is the one that would make her happy, not Domyouji. They eventually become very close friends and she depends on him as a confidant. According to Tsukushi, Rui Hanazawa is the one who can heal her wounds and make her feel happy and calm again when hurt by feelings for Tsukasa. Although he still loves Tsukushi, Rui eventually comes to accept Tsukasa and Tsukushi's relationship, vowing to stay by their side to make sure their love goes smoothly. It is suggested that while Rui will always care deeply for Tsukushi, he will eventually meet someone special one day.
Rui has Asperger syndrome, which makes socializing difficult for him. He has trouble recognizing facial expressions: for example, when trying to draw Tsukasa, he drew an expressionless egg with curly hair. These are personality traits which he still holds.
Remember Song Woo Bin said Ji Hoo is erratic (or at least that's how the dialogue was translated)? Combined with his Asperger syndrome, I think this is the hardest character to portray in F4. That was what I thought since I watched Vic played Hua Ze Lei in Meteor Garden, which is when I fell in love with Rui. Simple-minded complicated good-looking weirdos are my specialty. I fell in love with Rui in 2 seconds. Except the one played by Oguri Shun, maybe because he carried with him emotional baggages from all his previous acting experiences. IMO, Rui seems best played by newbies.. which Vic and hyung were at the time.

I didn't know hyung from Adam when I first watched BOF, so all this talk about him just having a “pretty face” to attract fangirls from all over asia is such a dumbass comment. All the F4 members have pretty faces, that's why they're called Flower Boys, dumbo... get with the program. And I have an aversion to liking an actor just coz he's good-looking. In fact, the more good-looking he is... the more I need him to be talented to like him, or else he'll just get a loud boo from me (which is why I can't watch popular movies in cinema).
I have no technical knowledge about acting, nor do I care to have it coz it's a different world from mine, so why should I bother? I'm just a nobody in the audience. When I saw hyung play that violin, I confess that my first feeling was an allergic reaction. Or more like... WHO'S THIS NOBODY WHO DARED TO PLAY MY RUI?? ...yep, I'm possessive of that character haha. But hyung is the one who played Rui the way I've always imagined Rui should be. See, Hua Ze Lei is too soft. He wants Shan Chai but he doesn't exactly fight Dao Ming Zi for her. Mostly he stays by her side like a calm and vast ocean that never wavers and responds to her whenever he's needed. Yoon Ji Hoo is more pro-active, getting punched violently twice for his effort and forcing Jun Pyo to 'sacrifice his life' in order to support Ji Hoo's struggle to win Jan Di, but despite this... you just know that Jan Di and him are not suited to be together. His grandfather says it best.. he's too quiet. You can sense how reclusive he is, despite him always getting into one activity or another whenever Jan Di is around. How did hyung manage to convey that stillness?? Ish awesome.
A girl wrote in a blog that hyung displayed discontinuous acting. I have no idea what she meant by that but that's how Rui is. Discontinuous. He lives in a world peopled only by those he lets in. Ji Hoo may hug Jan Di a lot, but he has a deep aversion (more like... 'unfeelingness'?) towards other humans whom he does not accept. Jun Pyo, who's supposed to be more volatile and scolds people as he pleases, is a warmer person than Ji Hoo. Being so nice to Jan Di, F4, his grandfather and a few other people and then so cold and emotionless towards the rest of the characters... is that what she meant by discontinuous acting? Only towards the end of the drama, Ji Hoo was able to make some kind of connection with strangers with Jan Di's coercion, i.e. the scene of him playing harmonica in the clinic.
I read a lot of comments about how wooden hyung's acting was at the beginning. I'm not sure if this is true for hyung... like he said, he's still a chick when it comes to acting. But to me, that's the Hanazawa Rui I've been waiting for. Wooden with others, animated with Makino, comfortable with the F4, totally uncaring of his surrounding, emanating such an intense aura just by standing there and watching everyone doing their own thing, single-minded when it comes to pursuing Makino despite knowing they can't be together.. while helping her to deal with her feelings towards Domyouji. There're times when hyung became more natural.. talking, laughing, smiling... and I was sitting there screaming... GIVE ME MY (WOODEN, COLD, ERRATIC) RUI BACK!! (lol) ..and he always comes back. Thanks hyung, for never forgetting.
I love Rui. I love him as much as a warm-blooded person can love a fictional character. I wish I could see him again... played by someone else this time. I still think of the 3 actors.. hyung depicts him as he is, or as I wish he would be... as if he has stepped out of the manga and become human right in front of my eyes. The fact that Kim Hyun Joong is 180 degrees different from him is amazing. Everytime I watch hyung's clip when he has his Ji Hoo style (hair, clothes, etc.) ..it's like I'm watching someone else. I get a dislocated feeling. Have to remind myself all the time that this is hyung during filming, and not a Yoon Ji Hoo's doppelganger. Mesmerizing.
I've written so many words, yet I don't think I've carried out this dissection of Yoon Ji Hoo well at all. Aaaaaa... I fail as a surgeon!
Afterwards, I tried to search on the net to know more about this Kim Hyun Joong guy. Then of course I found out that the real person is more interesting than the character he played in BOF. How can that be?? hahaha.. it makes watching Yoon Ji Hoo so unsatisfying, demmit. Why would I want to be with Yoon Ji Hoo when hyung is prancing around on my youtube screen being totally adorable and entertaining? He puts me in such a weird dilema.

Seo Taiji & Boys - Come Back Home
Bought this one with the 12012 cd. Because he's hyung's idoru so I thought I want to 'listen' to what he says... what is so powerful about his songs that they managed to move a whole generation? And made hyung run away from home for 6 months to pursue music? This is not the one with Ultramania though. I bought this one coz it says in wiki that the song Come Back Home literally made the runaway teenagers to 'come back home'. Ish an interesting descweeption. Not that I'd understand it, not knowing korean. I bought it without even previewing the song on the net. Coz I'm crazy like that.
You'll be listening to this as I'm listening to the cd on my way home from school. Have fun~
... I love ALL the songs! And I love his talking voice (it comes on in one of the songs.. maybe it's a recording from a live performance). He sounds warm and kind. Hypnotizing. Totally different voices at totally different times and songs. Seo Taiji is like a lovely kitsune! Esp. with his coloured hair.
Oh, I forgot to mention that he added 3 more tracks to the existing 10. How generous is that?? And all the songs were written by him, and he's the guitarist in most of them. Come Back Home is a remixed version in one of the extra tracks. Seo Taiji... SAIKO! (sumthg like.. 'amazing' in japanese)
I think I wanna buy more of his CDs. See how my budget is after this. Just got an sms from my sis asking for a laptop loan. Kids... buying laptop nowadays seems like buying popcorn to them, or sumthg.

12012 - Wana
Just got my SEVEN cd... wo0t! Was quite surprised they're still together after more than 5 years so bought their newest cd to celebrate. This is the only band that made me purchase their cd despite not knowing or caring how they look like or how their personalities are. My friends gave me songs of theirs a few years back and after the gajillionth listen and still not getting bored of their music, I decided to buy an album.
They're still continuing their theme madness inside a human, unlike Gackt who 'made' me study his entire discography, PVs, photobooks, whatnots for TWO bleeding years despite having a dissertation to finish... and THEN announced that he's getting REBORN, which means he'll leave his lovely MOON PROJECT unfinished... arrrrrgh!!! I hate you, man! Although I still love your old songs coz your voice is so lovely in them, I doubt I'll touch your new works EVER!
