April 21st, 2009 DURBAN - Rain played spoilsport Tuesday, forcing the abandonment of the second game between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at the Kingsmead here. Both teams will get one point each.

Persistent rain forced abandonment of the game between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals here on Tuesday. Not even a single ball could be played due to steady drizzle.

The Mumbai team, after gaining one point from Tuesday’s washed out tie, have moved to the top of the table with three points in their kitty. The Sachin Tendulkar-led side had defeated last year’s runners-up Chennai Super Kings in their opening match on Saturday.

Defending champions Rajasthan, who were crushed by the Royal Challengers, opened their account and stand at number seven in the table.

NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders were declared winners by 11 runs according to the Duckworth Lewis method in the sixth match of the second edition

Kolkata Knight Riders' Yashpal Singh dives in an unsuccessful attempt to catch Kings XI Punjab's Yuvraj Singh at Kingsmead in Durban.

Kolkata Knight Riders were declared winners after a futile wait of 45 minutes for the rain to stop. Kolkata Knight Riders were 79/1 in 9.2 overs in pursuit of 159 when rain stopped play. West Indian captain Chris Gayle gave Kolkata Knight Riders a blazing start scoring 44 off 26 balls with the help of 4 huge sixes and 2 fours. With him at the crease is Brad Hodge (10).

Gayle put the Kings XI Punjab attack to the sword hitting Irfan Pathan for 2 fours and a six off successive deliveries and was dropped on 2 by Karan Goel at square leg in the second over and on 32 by wicket keeper Kumar Sangakkara in the seventh over. McCullum brought up the 50 for

Kolkata Knight Riders in the 6th over by Vikramjeet Malik with a four over the covers. Next ball he gave himself room and hit a flat six over point. McCullum tried to cut the next delivery, but edged to keeper Kumar Sangakkara to take the catch. The Kolkata Knight Riders captain hit 2 sixes and a four in his 21-run knock that came off 16 balls.

I have never felt this nervous about a game I don't understand and am not even able to watch

... as green as I am about cricket, even I know that KKR just have to win this match to gain the much-needed momentum and install confidence in the players and the fans. However, alternating between optimism and pessimism, plus not having lunch or dinner today, is not making it easier on my poor stomach.

There're some ways to watch cricket online for free, but Malaysia internet being the slowass it is, none of the alternatives given will probably work. I'm currently hitting google search button every two seconds to look up the results. It's like reading alien language, not English, but I persevere.

I wonder if anyone realised that all the Bollywood stars' cricket teams (RR, Kings, KKR) lost their first matches for whatever reasons. Blaming it on rain or depleted players or pre-tournament controversies does not take away the fact that they've lost. Is there an equation between the teams being severely highlighted due to high-profile owners and their poor performances on the field in this second time around? I hope not.

Will KKR pick itself up this time? Will I still continue to cheer for KKR if it continues its poor showing for the rest of the tournament? I think in this matter, I need to learn from Shah Rukh some sportsmanship (of which I have nearly none) and think positive thoughts for the team I believe in. I've decided that I'm not going to toss away my hope in them just because they didn't win their first match (and second??).

The journey is still ongoing and I hope they play well tonight and in the rest of IPL 2.

Rajasthan Royals defeated by Bangalore Royal Challengers

I'm only keeping up with the commentary in anticipation of which team KKR will face when it advances to the semi-finals (that's me being positive, not sarcastic). For those who understand what all these figures mean, I'm pasting the results of the match here (full article):

• Bangalore Royal Challengers gained a crushing 75-run win as the champions were bowled out for a paltry 58
• Indian batting star Rahul Dravid made a fine 66 as Bangalore recovered from losing two wickets for no runs in the first three balls of their innings. Bangalore made 133 for eight, which hardly seemed likely to be a total easily defended, but the Royals made a horror start and never recovered. They were bowled out for 58, with no batsman making more than 11
• Mascarenhas struck again when Robin Uthappa was caught behind to reduce the Challengers to 17 for three. But Pietersen made 32 as he and Dravid started a fightback. Dravid carried it on, batting until the last over of the innings as he made 66 off 48 balls with eight fours and a six. Mascarenhas took three for 20 and he was backed up by Munaf Patel (two for 25) and Warne, who claimed two for 18 in his four overs.

My stomach is in a knot waiting for the KKR match even though I can't watch it. I suspect it'll be online early morning Malaysian time. This is when I wish I have cable + sports channel.

Two cases in point

I'm confused. Is it Best Marketed Movie of the Decade, or Best Marketed Movie of the Year? I think the former makes more sense since OSO was released in 2007, not 2008.

• We once again were reminded why exactly Shah Rukh is called the 'King' Khan. The star despite being perhaps the second smallest thing on ramp (the first is Rahul Bose) took our breath away with his easy grace and charm. And what's more, he turned a fashion show into an awards night by thanking his friends (which happened to be almost the entire tinsel town) who turned up for the show, the designer, the models...everybody. Now he's one who doesn't believe in breaking rules, he just makes his own!
