After Woo Chi, I have absolute faith that Kang Dong-won will not do a movie if the script is not a fun one and this one looks like fun overload.. exploding glass, a school of fish dancing to his will, mass of zombie-like people ready to do his bidding at the drop of a hat.. can't wait to watch it!



And what's this?? It appears that another of his movie was released after Woo Chi and I didn't know anything about it! Wonder if the DVD's already out. I hate watching movies in a cinema.. feel so suffocated and restrained to watch a movie that has someone I like while perching on a strange sofa surrounded by strangers. I can't shout, pause, rewind, dance, curse, eat instant ramen, etc. during the viewing. Dem frustrating. Would rather wait for the DVD even though that usually takes awhile.

• Long preview for Episode 15 ...am totally not watching it coz I want to watch the episode in full. My career of watching long previews is officially over last week, but you're welcome to it.

• Playful Kiss in ETN

• Personnel of [Playful Kiss] has mentioned that “Profit received just for the pre-sold distribution rights to overseas has raked in 4 billion won by itself. It will begin to air from December onwards in Japan. If we were to assume the failure and success of this drama just by looking at the results achieved in Korea here, it is meaningless”. Lovecalls for him to appear in many works does not end as well. With SS501 members dispersed in each different agency, it looks like it will take some time for them to resume singer activities. Because of that, possibility for Kim Hyunjoong to focus on acting career for the moment looks high. Keyeast personnel says, “Not just dramas, there’re also many movie proposals received. There are so many proposals received, not at all worried. But first and foremost, to take a rest first, while also to plan for his next work carefully and seriously”. (link)

 Movie?? Movie?? Yes! Please appear in a movie, hyung! But of course you have to rest first.. seriously, you have to find a solution of how to stay at the same weight throughout a drama. Other than worrying about your health, I'm also distracted by the change in the character's appearance nearing the end of the story and not in a good way... although you're too yummy even when you're ultra-skinny that I'm willing to let it pass, but don't think you can work like that for all subsequent dramas. Your acting life is just beginning and I'm hoping for more works from you. Oh, and what about that solo album you promised us? Please don't do mini albums anymore. Make it a full album so I can save money and buy it. I'm dying to buy an album with only your voice in it *ish greedy*

• There will be a total of 9 episodes for these special features, and will be about Baek Seung-joo (Kim Hyun-joong) and Oh Ha-ni's (Jeong So-min) story after the last episode. The official from 'Group Eight' added, “It won't show much difference with the flow of the original or Taiwanese version, but there will be a special something that only Korean dramas can have.” (link)

Looks like it's been upgraded from 7 to 9 episodes now (yippeeeeee!) and I'm currently wondering how they're gonna pace it.. is it gonna be 1 episode per week? 10 minutes of PK per week?? How am I supposed to survive with such a measly fare? I'll be starving! Good that I'm doing that nonsensical picture recap job. Keeps me amused and happy in PKland for quite sometime to come.. hehe

I love their determination to be together. They make the actually complicated and difficult deal seems so plausible.. "People say we have disbanded but none of that talk has come from our mouths. What are you going to do if we then come out with a new album?" (link). This kind of talk is why I call him 'hyung-nim' in my blog. So the kiss is gonna be in episode 13??? YES! I don't have to wait another agonizing day to watch it.. lalalala *happy PK fan*

I was suddenly reminded of hyung saying to his fans "If you leave oppa because of this, oppa's gonna be mad!" during the 'We Got Married' episode where Hwangbo had to kiss him (and that's only on the cheek!) as according to her mission.. LOL.

No wonder those fangirls who wrote about the kiss in the rain said that they feel frozen watching the scene. It's hot hot hot!!! I dunno how many times I'll be rewinding the 3rd kiss part. Even the much shorter 2nd kiss part got my rewind button on overdrive. Am I a pervert?? haha

Tomorroooooowwwww.. o o o o ...tomorrooooooooowwww ~ *giddy with anticipation*

My thoughts on the preview:

A lot of people have been complaining of how Hani is being spineless and indecisive and a threat to feminism (I doubt Hani even understands the concept of being a feminist in the first place) by molding her dream into something that only complements anything Seung Jo's gonna do in the future.

Aren't they forgetting something important? Seung Jo wants to be a doctor, an ambition inspired by Hani. Then isn't it beautiful that Hani wants to be a nurse to support Seung Jo's ambition? These two.. it's not just Hani orbiting Seung Jo.. at this point in their (still platonic) relationship, they've started to orbit each other.

Without even sleeping together despite the abundant opportunities (staying under the same roof, Hani sleeping over at Seung Jo's apartment), they have so closely entangled their lives it's difficult to separate the Seung Jo that Hani has helped forge and the Hani that Seung Jo has helped create. Why should such closeness be equaled to suffocation? Hani is his oxygen, as much as he is hers. Without one, the other cannot be alive.

Isn't it amazing that being in love is to become a self that depends on the existence of your loved one in order to live a life full of joy and contentment? If anyone denies this, then he/she has never completely abandoned him/herself to love. Which is not wrong, nor is it right. It's just that it's not the only way to treat love, and therefore it is also not your place to scorn how somebody else treats his or her love.

Despite watching the previous drama versions and the original anime, I've never understood the love story of these two people. I'm glad the Korean version was made. I appreciate this story now.

I want to see Baek Seung Jo's face when he hears that Hani's gonna accept the proposal. In the anime, I love that scene the most, rewinded it a few times.. it's like Naoki is struck by lightning, and suddenly he just runs outta the tennis court and goes to find Kotoko. Ah, karma. How I love it when it happens to someone else.

Jakamman... isn't that whole "the only one you like is me" the line Naoki said to Kotoko in the rain before their 3rd and final kiss in the anime??

So now the writers have changed the sequence of events? What does that mean? What does that mean? What does that mean? Arrrrrrghh, I want to watch next week's episode NOW!

Another things is.. with the way this episode is moving... I think Seung Jo's only gonna reveal about his desire to be a doctor in the last episode, after he proposes to Hani. Well.. I want him to propose to Hani, or else what is the point of this intense love affair?

I'm always torn between wanting this drama to end quickly so I know the whole story immediately, and wanting it to never end coz that'll be the end of my favourite bickering on screen couple.. LOL.

We're on Episode 11 and it looks to me that the story is progressing nicely.

Heh.. I knew Seung Jo's gonna go back to being a cold robot after the night they spent together. It's his standard operating procedure. I'm kinda used to it now, and I think I sorta get why it's like that with him.

Despite still wanting to hit him with a brick now and then, I don't think I can hate the Korean version of Naoki Irie. Coz he really does love Hani. Just that he has his own weird way of showing it, is all.

Who's the new sunbae and why is Hani suddenly surrounded by 3 handsome hunks?? Ok, make that 4 coz I'm beginning to think that Tennis sunbae is quite cute now, dunno why.. LOL.

I hope the new sunbae is not just a copy-paste character designed to make Seung Jo jealous and nothing further. He doesn't give out a feeling of seriousness, despite looking so dishy that even Seung Jo feels threatened. Who's the guy? Another idol actor?

This is gonna be their 2nd kiss episode?? But the 2nd kiss (according to the anime) is still the peck-on-the-lips type. I'm not that excited about it.. really. *tries to act all calm and dignified*

Arrrgh, who cares about being calm and dignified ~~~ it's the 2nd kiss, yo!! *hyper* ...can't wait to watch it tomorrow.. yeay!!

[Preview] Playful Kiss / Mischievous Kiss Episode 10 preview

Notice that I no longer talk about the rating for this drama? It's because I've given up on following it. Seriously. This drama is just not registering in the psyche of the viewers living in those 2000 homes with the whateva boxes installed (in order to record the rating).

I think it's because the target viewers for this drama are us, and we don't really watch drama on TV.. well, at least I don't. I prefer to download my dramas. You can't rewind your favourite scenes on TV, and I do a lot of rewinding while watching.

Or maybe that's just an excuse for easing the hurt I felt in my heart at the drop in rating it's experiencing. Yes, again. Episode 9 registered a 4.5% rating, and at more than half-time, we can most probably say it will stay at that level or even lower. Also, with Rain's drama making an explosive 20% debut, I think we'll just see an upward trend for Runaway. Makes me glad that Playful Kiss only has 7 more episodes. I just want hyung to finish this drama and go do other projects as soon as possible.



Anyway, I haven't watched episode 9 so I'm only guessing about episode 10:

Seung Jo moves out of the house, leaving Hani behind. Hani is in despair and keeps trying to engage him in conversation at college, but he is as uncaring as ever. Hani's friends confront him (about his cold attitude towards Hani, I think). Seung Jo talks to her about something (most likely to tell her stuff that will keep her away from him..huh). There is something to do with Hera + Seung Jo that makes Hani cry her eyes out in her room. Mrs. Baek, for the first time in her match-making life, has no idea how to help her.

Watching this preview makes me want to tell Hani to go find another bloke who'll love her, instead of the iceberg that is Baek Seung Jo. But of course LOVE is irrational and incomprehensible. How does one force one's heart to love or to be indifferent? It's just not possible.

I've also revised my opinion on how this drama is gonna end. There'll most probably be a wedding, but I doubt we'll have a post wedding arc. Things are moving fast in one direction but verrraa slowly in another. I also think we won't have the side love stories. All the Chris parts that have to do with Naoki Irie will be played by Hera, and all the Keita parts that have to do with Kotoko will be played by Joon Gu. This is because we have not been introduced to new actors aside from these people. Surely if there'll be new characters, Group 8 would have introduced them to us by now. But there's zilch announcement on it. What, they'll just spring these important new characters on us without any prior announcement?

Anyway, I love this drama. I got into it initially because of hyung.. but now I'm in it because of Hani. If I had had my own way regarding how her character should turn out to be, I'd make her get married happily ever after with someone else and let Baek Seung Jo stew in his own bitter juices while toiling in one trivial pursuit after another.. ha! I want him to suffer a fate worse than death: a life full of regret.

Episode 9 is downloading merrily in my torrent box.

EDIT @ 3pm: Episode 9 is done downloading yeay!!! Now I have to wait for 2.5 more hours before school is finished to watch it.

Bloody 'ell.. why am I crying watching this preview??

It's just that I think Oh Hani's expression, as she watches Seung Jo, is becoming more and more heartrendingly desperate and vulnerable. Waaaaaaa...

Know what? If you ask me which Naoki Irie version is meaner, I would say it's Baek Seung Jo. Because he can be affectionate and close in one moment and completely unreadable in the next. At least the other versions are cold and scathing throughout the show.

He giveth her hope and he taketh it away..

I think I'll be spending the next few episodes in a perpetual state of murderous rage at this guy, simply because he has the power to completely destroy the girl with a single decision. That's bad. That's very bad.

I've read this manga where a girl went wacko on her high school crush.. stalking and threatening his girlfriend, believing that they're in love and about to get married, and at last trying to kill herself coz he won't capitulate to her fantasies.

I'm just glad this manga gives the Kotoko character a happy ending. Can you imagine a dramaverse where Kotoko ends up not getting Naoki Irie (like Hanazawa Rui not getting Makino in Hana Yori Dango)?

Watching Oh Hani's face when Seung Jo announces that he's moving out... it feels like her universe is about to cave in. So much hurt on her face.

This is why I don't like falling in love. Love sucks. I'd rather watch other people fall in love in movies and dramas while bashing them on their foolishness. Yes, I'm a coward.. so what? It's my heart, right?

Oh Hani FIGHTING!

(I wish we can have ep 9 & 10 back-to-back so we don't have to wait until Friday to complete this arc *impatient*)

This is only for oversea fans like me who have to wait until tonight to watch the episode.. gah! Torrent is a pain, but without it, I will be more tortured. So I'll just suffer this in silence.



My heart was beating faster when I watched the tennis-partnering scene. Seung Jo, you know you want to touch her.. pabo.

Ahhhhh.. He Ra confessed! Poor Hani. The weight of her inferiority complex musta been burdening her so much that she's actually thinking of saying goodbye to Seung Jo. As if he'll let her leave him.. ha!

But the last few minutes on Joon Gu in Episode 7 did make me go.. "Oh Hani, you should have married this sweetheart. You two would make a cute dorky couple".

...while He Ra and Seung Jo in Episode 7 earned a nickname from me: The Impenetrable Wall of Evil Twins. Don't you think they look like Evil Twins set to conquer the world with their manipulatively brilliant evil ways? I love the dynamics of these two couples.

And the Sunbae is absolutely awesome (I didn't catch his name). When he changed to Tennis Maniac Man, I was clapping and shouting already.. LOL. He's just like in the anime, minus the annoying Hitler mustache.. thank God for small favours.

The way this is going.. I think Seung Jo will be proposing to Hani in Episode 10. What do you think?

Playful Kiss ratings dropped down to 3.0% for Episode 5

First, the preview of Episode 7. Didn't I say that he's gonna change his hairstyle once he gets to college? And it's the type I love too! I hate it going all straight and lanky on a guy, although on hyung.. any hairstyle will inexplicably turn out to look nice. But this new one suits hyung better IMHO. The superficial fangirl in me rejoices.. yeay!!

Let's just admit it here.. if not anywhere else. Playful Kiss has the pace of a japanese dorama. Well, at least the j-doramas I like to watch anyway. I guess the Korean viewers have been fed with a different fare that makes them unable to respond favourably to the drama. For everyone who's been complaining about the drama progression, I can tell you that up to Episode 6.. it has followed the anime storyline very faithfully.

Which is good news to us Itazura na Kiss anime fans, but not really for the rest of the Korean TV-drama-watching population. I wonder what the production team was thinking when they decided to model the drama after the anime. They should have known their market better, right? O wellz..

Anyway, I love the drama. But I'm currently having an emotional time reading about the rating it is getting. Playful Kiss fans, and the rest of the cast and production team of course, are facing a very possible crisis here. And that is of the drama dissolution. Will MBC play its rather common game of ditching a nonperforming drama in the lurch with Playful Kiss too? Time will tell.

People are hoping that it'll pick up its rating next week since Baker King has ended yesterday (I think). It seems people are forgetting that Runaway is gonna replace Baker King and Rain the actor already has a stable fanbase compared to hyung-chan.

I'm depressed.

Maybe I should just turn off Google and get on with my study/work. Meh.

Mischievous Kiss / Playful Kiss Episode 5 (8 mins) preview & other Kim Hyun Joong-hyungnim updates

I'm beginning to dislike these 8 minutes previews because if they show all the juicy bits, what are people supposed to look forward to in the next episode? But reading the youtube comments, maybe I'm in the minority so I guess it's an okay strategy (though I still don't like it).

Mischievous Kiss / Playful Kiss Episode 4 Long Preview

Watching episode 4 preview, I'm now more convinced than ever that they're following the pace of the anime. Thank God. I thought, since ISWAK was supposedly very popular, they'd be following the Taiwanese version. Which I dislike immensely. I still couldn't bring myself to watch it past episode 1. I like TKA better.. mmmm, mostly coz of the numerous snogging scenes.. Joe Cheng always looked like he was gonna eat Ariel's face off.. 0_0"

Anyway, I like the pace of the anime more than the manga. I hope Oh Hani becomes a nurse. I like that story arc better. TKA combines both teacher and nurse, and so many other additional unimportant messy side stories that just got the fast forward button on my remote on overdrive.. grrr. I wonder who's gonna be Keita. Hope it's someone gorgeous so I can enjoy Seung Jo's jealousy much better. And who are they gonna rope to play Christine?? I hope it's a girl as cute as the one in TKA. I like her a lot.. hehe. Despite wanting to hit Naoki Irie with a brick in some episodes, the storyline still makes me want to download the next anime episode.

I find that I enjoy it better when I can anticipate the next scene. Of course you're in for major spoilers, but I'm the kind of reader who'll flip to the end of a book to see whether the character I like will die or not before I can finish the book, so I'm okay with spoilers. If you don't like spoilers, I suggest that you don't touch the anime episodes with a 10-foot pole.. coz up to episode 4, Mischievous Kiss / Playfull Kiss is following that version quite closely.

‘Mischievous Kiss’ 2nd episode re-run rating at 6.6%

Okay.. I cracked. I surfed around for the rating.. hehe. Well, this pretty much agrees with my prediction.. about 7%, which is what I think it should earn for its first 3 episodes instead of the lousy 3.5-ish.

The re-runs of the two episodes were broadcast on the 4th, and according to AGB Nielsen Media Research, it received ratings of 4.2% and 6.6%, higher than the original broadcast ratings of 3.5% and 3.7%.

...and it seems the strike has played a role in the low rating as well, somehow.

I also found a re-cap of both episodes. It always amuses me how viewers who claim to dislike the shows (dramas/movies/etc.) I like turned out to be the ones who wrote longass posts about them. I also like it when they confess that they're now liking what they've been kicking about like a can earlier. Love the positive comments too.

I dunno why they're so determined to see hyung fail at this from the start. A guy who everyone praises as a good dancer now, he used to be a rocker dude who was into guitar and knew nothing about dancing. Hyung can excel in anything if he puts his mind to it.. even academics. He's a workaholic. If he's determined to be a good actor, he'll work hard at it until he gets the recognition he wants. But along with hard work, he has that 'extra' something that can make even someone like me, who usually takes a looooong time to like an idoru, falls in love at first sight.

I leave you with a long preview of Episode 3. Is poking someone in the butt something that's regularly done by mascots in Korea? I'll have to be careful in theme parks if I ever get to visit there then.. :P

Mischievous Kiss / Playful Kiss Preview Episode 3

I love this drama..



...I think even if I were not hyung's fan, I would have been attracted to this drama. It's the type I like. So I've decided to ignore any future update on the drama rating. I dunno how drama ratings work in Korea and I don't care.

I hope the production team can work harder to make this drama more accepted with the general audience in Korea, i.e. viewers who don't care about the original manga/anime work or ISWAK/TKA or the Itazura na Kiss dorama and viewers who are not fans of Kim Hyun Joong or any of the other actors in the drama.

I don't want the low rating to influence MBC to take it off the air mid-story. I want to watch hyung as the genius doctor who spouts all those incomprehensible medical terms to his colleagues and his wife. I think they're gonna change his hair style and his clothing style a few times in this drama to suit the change from high school student to college student to a working adult. I want to see all that!

Therefore.. please let the rating increase! To avoid from becoming obsessed with this rating issue, I'm not gonna mention it again in this blog (will try very hard to restrain my fingers from searching and typing about it). I'll wait until Jdramas Livejournal upload the episodes, watch them and decide for myself of its worth. Ijo!
